Repetition

Jan 14, 2026

Having something novel or interesting to write every day is going to be hard. I've seen it over and over again, though: there is something to the act of repetition. It doesn't really matter what the particular activity it is. One of my personal heroes is Sven Yrvind. This absolute legend is 86 years old and spends his time building a one-man boat with his bare hands, which he is then going to use to sail from Sweden to New Zealand! This is not the first time he has done something like this. He has, in fact, been sailing for more than 60 years.

I will definitly write more about him later. The objective today is to publish something, however small, and put in one more rep.

I really envy people like him: people that have found a singular, unique passion and devote their lives to it.

Another inspiring individual who has been on my mind lately is Truett Hanes. He runs marathons in jeans and is starting to produce a series called "Olympic Trials or Die Trying". The standard to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the marathon is likely going to be somehwere in the vicinity of 2:16:00. Anyone who has ever run any distance longer than a mile knows how absolutely insane a goal that is. I think he's going to make it.

Maybe it really is about chasing dreams.
